August 14, 2003:

Are you planning on writing and/or publishing any more of your wonderful poetry?: Yes I am planning to publish more of my poems but firstly I have to write them all down. I must catch the muse three dozen times or maybe three dozen muses one time, I'm not sure. It's been a while since I went muse hunting but I'm confident I'll recognize them, season and serve them. Maybe cook them, maybe not.

In the character of Marcus, who would you say was your favorite B5 character?: Having lost all previous attachments before arriving on B5, all he had loved had been killed, Marcus did not/would not make more. Marcus dedicated his life to fighting the Shadows as a Ranger. His dead brother was
a Ranger. His life now had become a singular goal: Defeat the dark forces. Marcus' rooms in the ship were sparsely furnished. If he was in a bar it was always for information, he didn't party. Marcus' romantic nature gave him a profound respect for noble action. Lenir, Delenn, Gkar and King Arthur all behaved nobly. When waiting was the only course of action Marcus liked to play diverting parlour games. It was particularly good sport with Doctor Franklin who didn't like to play. Marcus liked Franklin but they shared no secrets. When Marcus challenged a high ranking Warrior Caste Minbari to fight to the death for Delenn's life, she was not his close friend, he simply recognized her life as far more valuable in the struggle than his own. As for Ivanova: Susan and Marcus were never knowingly close and never on the same page in the same room. He loved Susan but any desire he had was overruled by his monkish dedication to his cause. His 'feelings' could never be his priority. Until the end. In the end. To his end. (maybe) he finally had opportunity to save someone he loved. Her life was worth more to him than his own.

With all the emotional energy you put into your work, has there ever been a role that has affected you to the extent that you "brought your work home with you?" If so, which role and how?: Aproaching a role. I have always thought that each character is movement in personality based on history and circumstance. If I, myself had the character's history, intimated in the script and this was my present circumstance, what would I be thinking/feeling to spontaneously say these scripted words. Script gives you a destination. These will be the words said and your job is to find the emotional place where those words are the only words you could say. As regards 'bringing it home' Yes. If I'm being all knightly in a role I do tend to continue being as knightly as possible in life. Coz I like that role. Personality, whether we recognize it or not, is largely habits of choice. It's a release to try on some new ones. Every role is therapy for me.

Any upcoming projects that you can share information about?: I have a good role in an independent horror movie The Revenant. Tentatively set to shoot in the fall, it is what is known as 'in development'. Getting all the ducks in a row. Richard Biggs and myself are two of the actor duckies. Producer fowl are, right now, procuring talented director duck and all other departmental flock.

Other news: I am excited I shall shortly be recording a novel, Heaven Sent by Alison Longstaff, as a book on tape. This will be my second BOT having recently had much fun recording Ill Met by Moonlight by Sarah A. Hoyt. Check your local listings!

Love is Truth,

Jason

December 12, 2002:

What is your Full Name?: Jason Brian Carter.

When is your Birthday?: September 23, 1960.

Where were you Born?: Gainsborough, England, UK .

What is your hair color?: Dark brown with some natural highlights unless I've remembered to color them.

What is your eye color?: Green.

How tall are you?: Six feet and shrinking

Do you have any brothers or sisters? If so, are they older or younger?: I have two brothers and I am the eldest, so I got the clothes first.

What kind of car do you drive?: It's German, it's black. A Volkswagen Beetle.

What is your favorite book, and why?: I AM THAT by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. Compiled with passion by a Dutch philosopher, Douwe Tiemrsma. The book contains translated, verbatim transcripts of Maharaj's conversations with questioning folk who had sought out his humble little tenement in the back lanes of Bombay for his understanding. There is no progression in the book. He doesn't espouse a creed, he does not profit from the book, he has no need to. Every conversation different but every one a gentle reminder of what we are not. A book that recommends you throw it away. Five stars.

What is your favorite movie, and why?: The Ruling Class with Peter O'Toole, I saw it on the telly when I was a 13 year old babysitter and loved its eccentricity and power. I credit it with sparking my interest in acting but that may just be creative memory. It doesn't matter though, it works for me. and when I am shooting a role and need the extra power of bold choices, I get courage from remembering my delight in brave Mr. O'Toole's huge and yet subtle portrayal of 'Jack'.

Who is your favorite actors/actresses?: Christopher Guest - again huge with finesse.

As a poet, do you have a favorite poet/do you read poetry/do you have a favorite poem?:
I don't have a favorite poet. Different poets at different times. I have enjoyed Liverpool poet, Roger McGough, Lewis Carroll makes me smile, and I love listening to retired folk man, Jake Thackray, his songs are fine poetry. A couple of years ago, I was 20, and I was struck by a poem that was posted on a London Underground train as part of an enriching civic cultural campaign 'Poetry on the Underground'. The British Council and London Underground posted them in advertising spaces and I would like to thank them for introducing me to: I am by John Clare (1793 -1864) a very effecting poem and apologize for being so profoundly taken with it, I took it home. Sorry.

Which actors would you consider as role models/inspiration?: Steve Buscemi - brave and bold and scary clever.

What was your inspiration for becoming an actor?: I just leaned in that direction and fell. When I left school at 18, I had just completed two years studying Math, Physics, and Chemistry and then I auditioned for Drama schools. LAMDA accepted me and by the time I finished the course, three years later, I had an agent. He sent me out for work which I got and that was it, I was an actor. Maybe I was before but now I got paid.

What kind of music do you listen to/Who are your favorite bands and/or singers?: All sorts. Let's say Blues - and a favorite is John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

What are some of your favorite hobbies when you like to unwind?: Gardening, playing Mech Commander II, juggling, messing about with computers, and moderate drinking. (bottle of whiskey, middle-of-the-road.)

If you could play any part in any film or play, what would want that part to be (in other words what would you consider to be the perfect role that you would love to play)?: Hmmmmmmm. Nope it hasn't been written yet, but it will be and I will play it well.

Out of all the roles you have played to date, which was your favorite and why?: Shakespeare's Macbeth. The brilliant tortured journey of his mind. Committing brutal acts, born of his marriage's mad, compulsive ambition , whilst struggling with reason to make the acts seem reasonable. Great writing. Not saying I achieved these objectives but I had a stab.

Would you ever want to get into directing (along with acting) someday?: Yes.

Any upcoming projects that you are particularly excited about or would like to share anything about some recent projects?: I recently did some filming for A Mid-Summer-Nights Rave, directed by Gil Cates Jr. The story loosely based and running parallel to Mid-Summer Night's Dream but….you guessed it…set in a Rave. It's got hip, beautiful, wacky people dancing to hip, beautiful, wacky music, falling in and out of love's confusion. Puck was Puck(updated) and I enjoyed myself playing O.B.John.
A Mid-Summer-Nights Rave - Coming soon to somewhere!
